Early Celtic Christians fashioned a spirituality rooted in the heart’s longing for simple things:

•        contemplative wonder,
•        deep connection to nature
•        hospitality for all creatures
•        celebration of life in poetry and music
•        reverence for God in daily life

The wisdom and practices of Celtic Christianity can awaken us to the simple desires of our hearts and encourage us to fashion a new and deeper relationship with the natural world around us.

The retreat will follow a rhythm of contemplative time in nature, prayerful practices to hallow the routines of everyday life, listening to poetry that celebrates creation, and sharing stories of our own concerns, hopes and love for the earth and its creatures.

Catherine Regan, Ph.D, is a spiritual director, clinical psychologist and staff member of Mercy Center, where she coordinates the Centering Prayer Program. Her great interest is in the renewal of contemplative practices and the benefits of those practices in our individual and collective lives.

Jim Neafsey has been a retreat leader, spiritual director and teacher of Christian spirituality for over thirty years. He led the Men’s Spirituality Program at Mercy Center from 1995 to 2002. Jim currently works on the staff of the Bread of Life Spiritual Direction Formation Program in Sacramento and does adjunct teaching in Christian Spirituality at Santa Clara University.
