June 7-9, 2013

Sunday 12:00 noon (lunch)

$245 Overnight / $200 Commuter

Bede Griffiths was one of the spiritual masters of the 20th century. In the spirituality of India and his study of Universal Wisdom he discovered new ways to articulate and incarnate the gospel, Christianity and his own monasticism.

Inspired by his experiences first as an Oxford student, where he was tutored by the great Christian apologist and author C.S. Lewis, and later, as a Benedictine monk and priest, Bede Griffiths became a pioneer in the modern rediscovery of the gifts of monastic spirituality. His pilgrimage to India In 1955 launched a lifelong ministry of listening, practice and dialogue.

A proponent of integral thought, he wrote: "We're now being challenged to create a theology which would use the findings of modern science and eastern mysticism...to evolve from that a new theology."

His books include The Golden String, Christ in India, and The Marriage of East and West.

In this retreat we will explore aspects of Bede Griffiths' thought and legacy, including a video about his life, while sharing periods of silence, prayer, song, gentle stretching, conscious breathing, and meditation. A silent dining space will be available. Yoga participation is optional and non-strenuous; instruction will be provided. Please bring a yoga mat and suitable comfortable clothing.
