SOUL TENDING:
Deep Calls to Deep

A Partnership between
Mercy Center and Bread of Life

Following our well-received retreat last summer, Soul-Renewal: A Communal Response, we are pleased to announce quarterly gatherings at Mercy to continue deepening regional communities of soul-tenders.

Those who tend souls in our world—whether individual or communal—belong to the community of courage and care in our challenging time. It is essential and life-giving to gather together with other 'soul-tenders' for intentional deepening. We each have a heart that leads to soul-tending work, however it is configured. And we each need the companionship of others to enter the depths in ultimate service to a world in need and a calling that demands much.

It's Been a Year! Learnings & Leadings
on Being a Citizen Soul-Tender

1:30-3:30, Mercy Center, Burlingame

Walk-ins welcome, no reservation required.
$10 registration; free to Soul-Tender affiliates.

It has been an unprecedented year in the American civic landscape, one in which shadow aspects of ourselves, our democracy, our institutions and our fellow citizens have been revealed. What are we learning about ourselves and our work as we 'soul-tend' individuals, organizations, families, and a range of in-the-world missions in this challenging environment?

Manna Moments in the Wilderness
1:30-3:30, Mercy Center, Burlingame

Walk-ins welcome, no reservation required.
$10 registration; free to Soul-Tender affiliates.

A long wilderness journey follows any invitation to genuine change. Walking the wilderness way is slow, exhausting work that demands much. A key practice for this phase of the journey is noticing the 'manna moments' - the moments of mercy and moments of grace that invariably arrive - and truly taking them in as nourishment for the journey. Together, as mutual encouragement we'll notice and celebrate these seemingly insubstantial, crucial gifts.

Those who tend souls in our world—whether individual or communal—belong to the community of courage and care in our challenging time. At the end of last year's retreat we heard clearly how essential and life-giving it is to gather with other 'soul-tenders' for intentional deepening together. We each have a heart that leads to soul-tending work, however it is configured. And we each need the companionship of others to enter the depths in ultimate service to a world in need and a calling that demands much.

Join us as we renew the community and continue conscious conversation about soul-tending (our own as well as the individual and communal souls we hold) in the context of the culture we inhabit and the choices that lie before us in this historical moment. We will continue our attention to life-giving practices that allow reflective response and engagement rather than reaction.

We will weave together times of mutual prayer, embodied practice, reflection and dialogue. We encourage you to stay overnight if you can. It's a way of helping to build community while tending yourself within it.
