FOUR SEASONS HAIKU KAI

BACK TO HAIKU KAI

HAIKU KAI REPORT
August 26, 2017
SUMMER MEETING

Attending

Jane Benson, Nancy Brill, Mary Fuchs, Mary Joyce, David Keim, Elaine Mannon, Sarah Paris, Karen Schlumpp, Janet Schroder, and Mark Werlin.

Meeting

The handout given at the last meeting led to a discussion and helpful clarification of one of the fundamental characteristics that distinguishes haiku from other short poems: the juxtaposition of two contrasting elements in a single present movement, observation or action. Sarah's recent experience submitting haiku to Frogpond Magazine provided both humor and insight into the process of working with an editor.
