Applications are now open for the 2019-2020 series of Sacred Journey.

A Foundational Year in Contemplative Christian Spirituality

Whether you are currently engaged in some form of pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, deaconate, hospice, parish work, spiritual direction or other lay ministry, or just wondering what God has in store for you — this course is an opportunity to deepen your spiritual life.

If you have a desire to experience contemplative processes and a longing for a deeper relationship with God, this is the program for you. You must be willing to be challenged in the area of personal growth and be able to complete all required assignments.

The ministry of spiritual direction is a call that is discerned over a period of prayer, affirmed by accompaniment of others on their spiritual journey, and evidenced by integration and service in a faith community and a contemplative stance toward life. It is a call that is the fruit of deep inner work. Many who complete Sacred Journey move into other areas of vocation, enriched by the course experience itself, using the gifts of the program in other ways.

Mandatory Attendance and Program Prerequisites

Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The staff puts a very high priority on attendance for the sake of the integrity of the program. If you know you will be unable to attend the first session, please defer your application to another year.

While Sacred Journey is a prerequisite for most people applying to our Art and Practice of Spiritual direction program, please be aware that completion of Sacred Journey does not assure acceptance into our formation program.

We are discerning dates and formats for future Art and Practice of Spiritual Direction programs at Mercy Center.  Please check our website after January 2020 for more information.
